Many people like dressing up as their favorite movie character for Halloween including some of the great action heroes such as Clint Eastwood Man with No Name or Arnold Schwarzenegger The Terminator or some of the great superheroes such as Batman and Robin. But why not do something different this year and dress up in a funny movie character costume such as the ones listed below.
Austin Powers and Felicity Shagwell
Austin Powers was an outrageous character who was first seen in the 1999 Austin Powers movie. He was known for his 1960s wardrobe, glasses, politically incorrect humor and really bad teeth. The movie was very popular and spawned two sequels that both made more money than the first. Mr. Powers had some really attractive girlfriends including Felicity Shagwell. This Halloween you and your spouse can go as Austin Powers and one of his many ladies. If you want to go as Austin Powers, then you should get a wig, blue suit jacket and pants, dickey with cravat, glasses and black shoes. Felicity Shagwell had long brown hair and her wardrobe consisted of blue shirt and shorts and long brown boots.
Buddy and Jovi from Elf
Another funny movie character couple is Buddy the Elf and his girlfriend Jovi from the hilarious Christmas movie Elf. Buddy was played by the brilliant Will Ferrell and Jovi was played by the beautiful Zooey Deschanel. At the end of the movie, you can see the both of them wearing green and pink Elf costumes. These are pretty easy costumes to find online. All you need is an adult size green Elf costume and an adult size pink Elf costume. Make certain that the costumes come with Elf hats and shoes to make your look more authentic.
Woody and Jessie from Toy Story
Woody and Jessie from the Toy Story movie franchise are really popular characters with kids and adults alike. They both look like cowboys so you may already have some of the clothes that you need for their costumes in your closet. Woody is dressed like an old-fashioned cowboy. He wears a hat, shirt and vest, sheriff’s badge and a lasso. Jessie is dressed like an old-fashioned cowgirl. She wears a red cowgirl hat, cowgirl shirt, cow-pattern chaps and boots. If you can’t find these things in your closet, then try visiting a local thrift shop. There are many online retailers that sell these types of costumes. These websites will have a better selection because brick and mortar stores have a limited amount of space.
Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare before Christmas
The Nightmare before Christmas was a great stop-motion animated musical that was directed by Tim Burton and released in 1993 to critical acclaim. It starred Jack Skellington, the King of “Halloween Town” who looks like a living skeleton, and his love interest, Sally, who looks like a rag doll. It was about Jack Skellington’s attempt to take over Christmas from Santa Claus by abducting him.
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters was a really funny science fiction movie that was released in 1984. It was about four guys who tried to catch all of the ghosts that were haunting New York City. The uniforms that these guys wore were iconic. The uniform consisted of coveralls, plasma trap, and electron pack. Costume versions of these items should be available at many online retailers. There is even a female version of the classic Ghostbuster costume that looks really sexy. It is a dress with a revealing top and it comes up to the thigh. Bill And Ted from Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure
The 1989 hit comedy Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure made a big star out of Keanu Reeves, who played Ted Logan, and Alex Winters, who played Bill S. Preston. Their characters were really funny slackers who happen to run into a man named Rufus, played by George Carlin, who is traveling back in time with a time traveling phone booth. They end up meeting all of these incredible historical figures and giving the greatest history report of all time. Bill S. Preston had short curly blonde hair and he wore a red baseball cap backwards. He wore a gray sweatshirt with a hand-drawn Wyld Stallyns logo on the back, blue jeans, blue long-sleeved patterned dress shirt tied around his waist and white Chuck Taylor Converse All Star basketball shoes with red shoelaces. Ted had really long, black, uncombed hair. He wore a white t-shirt with the band Van Halen on it, black vest, red jacket around his waist, long black shorts on top of gray sweatpants and black Chuck Taylor Converse All Star basketball shoes. The duo’s wardrobe can be found on ebay or maybe a thrift store. Be sure to play air guitar throughout the night if you want to stay true to the characters.
Popeye and Olive Oil
Popeye The Sailor Man and his girlfriend Olive Oil are iconic television cartoon characters. Many of today’s grownups grew up watching these two battle Bluto. There was even a live action movie based on their show that starred Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall. Popeye’s wardrobe consisted of a sailor uniform, sailor hat, big biceps, incredibly huge forearms, anchor tattoo on each forearm, and straw pipe. Olive Oil wore a red top with a white collar and a long black skirt. Her black hair was always put in a bun. You can have even more fun this Halloween if you perform some impressions and use the catchphrases that they are known for.
Liberace and Scott Thorson
The 2013 HBO Liberace movie starring Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his male lover Scott Thorson was a critical success. Michael Douglas even won a 2013 Emmy award for his portrayal of the flamboyant concert pianist. Dressing like Liberace and his lover would be an attention-getting costume choice for two guys who want to attend a costume party together. Liberace was famous for wearing clothes with sequins on it and a white silk cape. You should try to get a ruffled shirt with sequins on it and a silk cape with rhinestones. He was really well-groomed. He had beautifully coiffed brown hair.
He loved wearing a lot of rings and platform shoes. He was seen many times carrying a little white dog. Liberace had a beautiful, fancy candelabra that held a number of lit candles sitting on top of his piano whenever he performed in public. In order to make your costume really stand out, maybe you can carry around a candelabra.
His lover looked very much like Liberace. Liberace even paid for reconstructive surgery that would make Thorson look like a younger version of him. So I think you can wear a similar wardrobe to your friend’s Liberace costume if you want to go as Thorson. If you can, you should look for white clothing with a lot of gold glitter on it and a white cap to match.
Kermit and Miss Piggy
I can’t imagine any celebrity couple having a stronger love for one another than Kermit and Miss Piggy. Kermit can have anyone he wants but he chooses Miss Piggy because even though she is a total drama queen she has a kind heart. Miss Piggy wears the pants in this family and if anyone is caught making moves on her man there will be hell to pay. There are masks of these two characters and you can wear them together with a tuxedo for Kermit and dress and jewelry for Miss Piggy.
Juno MacGuff and Paulie Bleeker
Juno MacGuff and Paulie Bleeker from the 2007 surprise indie hit movie Juno would be a really easy couples costume to put together. You should model your costumes after the clothes that the two wear on the Juno movie poster because it is easy to find those pieces of wardrobe. Juno had shoulder length, straight brown hair that she put in a ponytail. The only makeup she wears is red lipstick. She wore a white t-shirt with orange stripes and a black hoodie. She wore a brown pleated skirt over a pair of blue jeans. Her choice of footwear was a pair of converse sneakers. Juno was pregnant for most of the movie so you have to get some padding for your stomach. Paulie Bleeker’s most recognizable wardrobe is his workout clothes. To duplicate his look, you should get a maroon shirt with the Dancing Elk Condors logo on the front and a pair of yellow running shorts. You should also get your hands on a yellow headband, two yellow wristbands, white socks with stripes and old blue Nike running shoes. He had short, curly brown hair which is a pretty common hairstyle. If your hair doesn’t match, then you can buy a wig at a retail store or online.
Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World
Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World fame has always been a great costume for couples. A woman can dress up in either costume and still look really cool. Wayne’s World started out as a skit on Saturday Night Live and ended up being a huge hit movie in 1992 so the characters are familiar to many older people. Their wardrobe consists of things you might find in your own closet. For Wayne, all you need is a hat with Wayne’s World on it, long, straight black hair, black t-shirt and worn blue jeans. For Garth, you need long, straight blonde hair, blue flannel shirt, white t-shirt and faded blue jeans.
