For this Halloween, why not dress up as your favorite Male Movie Action Hero. There are plenty of Male Movie Action Heroes to choose from including Clint Eastwood, John Rambo, Neo from The Matrix, and V from V for Vendetta. If you want to wear something iconic, then try wearing a Clint Eastwood cowboy costume with a poncho and hat and just sit back and wait for the compliments.
There are some nice Batman and Robin couples costumes and Top Gun Maverick and Goose costumes if you want to go to a costume party with your best friend. Some of the most popular Male Movie Action Heroes are listed below.
1. There are few movie icons as instantly recognizable as Clint Eastwood’s role in the Man with No Name trilogy which had a huge influence across the Western and action film genres. The John Wick franchise was inspired by the Man with No Name trilogy.
Even if you’ve never seen a single one of his three Spaghetti Western movies, you must know the tough guy persona he’s become famous for from watching his other movies.
And while he’s dabbled in a variety of genres over the years, it’s the westerns that have made him an American legend. From his breakout role in Sergio Leone’s “A Fistful of Dollars” to 1992’s “Unforgiven,” Eastwood has redefined what it means to be a cowboy onscreen.
But what you may not know is that the director Sergio Leone didn’t want Clint Eastwood to play the Man With No Name role. Originally, Leone offered the role to James Coburn, who turned it down.
The man with no name character has unmatched skills with a gun and has an air of toughness about him but says very little, and that’s just how Clint Eastwood wanted it. The Boba Fett character was based on Clint Eastwood’s Man with No Name character.
In the first Spaghetti Western film ‘A Fistful of Dollars,’ Eastwood is a gunslinger who arrives in a Mexican town to pit two families fighting for control of this town against each other in the pursuit of a cache of gold. The A Fistful of Dollars storyline was inspired by the Yojimbo samurai movie.
He wears a distinctive outfit in the movie “A Fistful of Dollars” consisting of a brown poncho, blue striped shirt, wrist cuffs, a cowboy hat, jeans, and a cigar that would make for an instantly recognizable Halloween costume. You can buy a replica of this costume online or you can spend a little more money and make a more authentic one on your own by assembling the outfit piece by piece.
The “Man with No Name” outfit, also known as the Clint Eastwood cowboy costume with a poncho and hat, was so memorable and iconic that Eastwood continued to wear it in the other two Sergio Leone directed Spaghetti Westerns, “For a Few Dollars More” (1965) and “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” (1966). They are considered some of Clint Eastwood’s best movies along with Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby.
2. When you think about 1980s action heroes, the first person you probably think of is the Vietnam vet John Rambo played by Sylvester Stallone. He was a member of special forces and he killed plenty of people. Like many Vietnam vets, when he came back to the United States he had a tough time dealing with civilian life. He only knew one thing and that was killing people. Eventually, he was called back to action and he was right back where he belonged.
His look is not that difficult to duplicate. Rambo has shoulder length, curly, black hair and he usually ties a piece of cloth around his forehead right before he goes to battle. He is in really good shape. He has huge biceps and six pack abs. He looks like he just got out of the tanning booth. This is probably why he spent most of second movie, which is the best Rambo movie, topless. In the second movie, his weapons of choice were a hunters knife, big machine gun, bow and explosive tipped arrows.
3. V for Vendetta was a movie about a masked man named V who lives in a time where the fascist British government is violating everyone’s civil liberties. He wants to cause anarchy by destroying the House of Parliament. Nowadays, if you see someone on the Internet talking about how the government should be overthrown, they are usually seen wearing the mask that V wore in order to hide their identity. The mask that V wore was inspired by Guy Fawkes who wanted to blow up the House of Parliament in 1605 because the government was way too oppressive. If you want to dress as V, you have to wear the V mask which is the most recognizable part of his costume. It is the character’s trademark. To complete your costume, you will also need to buy a black wide brimmed Spanish hat, shoulder length black wig, knee length black cloak, long sleeved black top, long black gloves, black pants, long black boots and black belt with 6 plastic daggers attached.
4. In the movie The Crow, Eric Draven, played by Brandon Lee, comes back from the dead to avenge his and his girlfriend’s deaths at the hands of a bunch of hoodlums. The movie had a Goth look which is the reason why it is so popular with so many rock stars. The movie was ultra-violent with many deaths resulting from knives and firearms. His look should be easy to duplicate because he dressed in all black except for his face. His wardrobe consisted of a long black trench coat, black shirt, black pants, black shoes, long black hair, and white clown makeup to hide his true identity.
5. As of 2021, there have been 25 James Bond movies. Many actors, including Sean Connery, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, have played this character but his routine and wardrobe pretty much remains the same. He always wears a tailored black tuxedo and expensive watch, especially one from Omega, carries a Walther PPK pistol in a shoulder holster and various high tech gadgets, drives an Aston Martin, sleeps with a lot of women and drinks a martini that is shaken not stirred. It should not be too difficult to duplicate the James Bond look. There are inexpensive tuxedos that you can purchase online that cost less than $100. They come in both adult and kids sizes. So you can create a James Bond costume for your kids as well.
6. King Leonidas was the leader of the Spartan army in the movie 300. He was portrayed by Gerard Butler. He spent a lot of time getting into great shape because he had to spend most of the movie topless. The wardrobe he wore into battle consisted of a helmet, red cape, shorts and sandals. He was a great warrior and frequently used a sword or spear to kill his opponents and a round shield to protect himself or bash people’s heads in.
7. John McClane, who was played by Bruce Willis, was a wisecracking New York police officer who tries to stop terrorists from robbing a Los Angeles highrise in the movie Die Hard. The wardrobe that the character is most famous for is the dirty undershirt, police walkie talkie, black pants, 9mm baretta, machine gun, zippo lighter, lit cigarette, and barefeet. The most important parts of this costume are probably the dirty undershirt, black pants, machine gun and lit cigarette hanging from his lips.
8. Jack Traven, who was played by Keanu Reeves, was the lead character in the grossly underrated action movie Speed. He was a member of the Los Angeles bomb squad who was trying to stop a mad bomber from blowing up a bus. I know it sounds ridiculous but I liked the way they resolved the situation. He has a buzz cut and spends the first part of the movie wearing a multi-colored sweater jacket, white t-shirt, tan khakis, black boots, a casio watch, a police badge on his belt, handcuffs, and a gun. During the middle of the movie, he takes his jacket off and puts on a police bomb squad vest in order to diffuse the bomb that is strapped to the bottom of the bus.
9. Another great action hero portrayed by Keanu Reeves was Neo from the Matrix movie franchise. Neo has incredible kung fu fighting skills and is really adept with firearms. Also with the help of Morpheus, he has the ability to slow down time and dodge bullets. All of the male characters are dressed pretty much the same way. They wear long black trench coats and black shades. They also carry a multitude of firearms.
10. Blade is a vampire slayer portrayed by Wesley Snipes. He is half human and half vampire which allows him to walk around in the daylight. This is why he is known as a daywalker. He typically kills vampires using a samurai sword. His wardrobe consists of black sunglasses, long black trench coat, black bullet proof vest, black pants and black boots. His samurai sword is usually tied to his back and he usually has a gun strapped to his right thigh.
11. The Punisher was a popular comic book character that got the big screen treatment in 2004. This character was played by Thomas Jane. He plays a retired FBI agent whose family is killed by a mobster and he spends the rest of the movie avenging their deaths. He wears a long black trench coat, black pants, black shoes, double shoulder holster with two 1911 colt 45s and black t-shirt with a white skull on the front, which is what he is most known for. The comic book character has a white skull on the front of the jumpsuit that he wears while he is dispensing justice.
12. Chow Yun Fat played iconic action heroes in the three action movies A Better Tomorrow, The Killer and Hardboiled. All three of these characters were primarily known for killing his enemies with a gun in each hand. In A Better Tomorrow, he plays a mobster who likes wearing black sunglasses, long black trench coat, black suit, white dress shirt and black tie. In The Killer, he wears a white coat, white pants, white scarf, and slicked back hair.
13. Bruce Lee performed in some of the greatest martial arts scenes ever shown on the silver screen before he died suddenly at the age of 32. Besides throwing spectacular punches and kicks, he also beats his opponents down with black nunchucks which is what he is most known for. His wardrobe typically consists of a white shirt, black kung fu jacket and pants and black shoes. However, in the Game of Death, when he fights Kareem Abdul Jabbar he wears a yellow jumpsuit with black and white stripes going down the sleeves and legs. A similar yellow jumpsuit is worn by Uma Thurman in the Kill Bill movie.
